THE WRITERS’ NETWORK 14th ANNUAL CONTEST:
SHORT STORY/SHORT PLAY/POETRY/YOUNG ADULT NOVEL
The Writer’s Network of South Florida offers cash awards of $100 to the winner, $50 to the first runner-up, and $25 to the second runner-up in each category.
CONTEST RULES BY CATEGORY:
Short Stories: Submit only unpublished fictional short stories, of 2,500 words or less. Entries must be double-spaced, in 12-point serif type. Story title and page number must appear at the top of each page.
Poems: Any type, form or genre, including traditional verse, free verse, prose poems, etc. Send one unpublished poem per entry, no more than five entries per person, 40 lines or fewer per poem. Each poem will be read and assessed for its own merit.
Young Adult Novel: Submit first chapter/first ten pages of 2,500 words or fewer. Story title and page numbers must appear on each page.
Short Plays: Submit double-spaced manuscripts of plays, not more than 10 minutes long (8-10 pages). Put play title and page number on each page. Plays may have been read in public, but not performed previously. We hope to perform the top entries.
GENERAL RULES, ALL CATEGORIES:
- Download the entry form on this website for submitting.
- Submit 3 copies of each entry, postmarked by March 15, 2012 using the form located here.
- Alternatively, leave your name OFF the manuscript. Instead, include a separate cover letter with your work’s title, your name, address, phone, and e-mail (if applicable).
- Include an entry fee of $15 PER entry, payable to The Writers’ Network of South Florida. Mail by March 15 to: Writers’ Network Contest, c/o Joanne Endorf, 2200 N. 54th Avenue, Hollywood, FL 33021.
- Entries with no e-mail address must include a S.A.S.E. for notification of winners. Do not include credits or bio.
- All entries must be in English, original, unpublished and not submitted elsewhere at the time of subission. No refunds will be issued for unqualified entries.
- Writers of all ages are welcome, but they must live in Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Martin, Collier or Lee counties in Florida.
A panel of three writers and readers will judge entries. Entries will not be returned.
Finalists are notified by April 30, 2012. Winners are announced in May at the annual Writers’ Network awards program.
